LOOKING FOR A DENTIST NEAR ME FOR MY CHILD’S FIRST VISIT
February 7, 2017
Looking for a dentist near me for my child’s first visit. We don’t tend to think too much about our baby’s teeth until they begin to arrive around 8 months of age. Then all kinds of questions arise such as when should I start brushing their teeth? When should my child see the dentist? Do I have to take care of their baby teeth if they’re going to fall out? These are all great questions, and Dr. David Lloyd wants to take the guesswork out of caring for your child’s teeth for you! Here are some answers and tips on caring for your child’s teeth from your dentist in Daytona Beach.
The First Visit
Many patients who are fearful about dental appointments report that it’s due to a bad experience they had as a child. At Indigo Dental, we strive to make every visit positive and upbeat for your child in order to set the foundation for future success. We encourage you to bring your child in for their first visit around the age of 2-3 years old.
We’ll spend time acclimating them to the “big chair” and the instruments we use until they’re comfortable enough for a cleaning. If this takes a few visits, that’s just fine, as we want your child to feel comfortable and even excited about their dental appointments.
Caring for Baby Teeth
You should begin brushing your child’s teeth as soon as they arrive. This keeps them healthy while acclimating your child to the process of brushing. You’ll need to continue to help them brush and floss their teeth until around the age of 6-7 years old.
Baby teeth are very important for a few reasons such as:
- Helping your child learn to talk
- Holding space for and guiding adult teeth into place
- Helping your child navigate solid foods
- For these reasons, regular dental check-ups, treatment if needed, and consistent brushing and flossing are essential to ensure the health of your child’s baby teeth.
